Project 1: The Character Design Sheet

Objective

Design or Re-design an original character using the following elements typically included in a model sheet, or character design sheet:

Head turn-around:

(A close-up head turnaround with at least 2 poses: front, side)

Lines can help you match up where certain features are placed on the character, ie. shoulders, the bottom of the nose, eyes, or the top of the head.

Expression chart:

(Expression chart with at least 2 different expressions)

Full-body turnaround:

(A full-body turnaround with at least three poses: front, side, and back)

Action pose:

(At least one drawing of a pose or action that you would find them in)

Accessories:

(At least one drawing of an accessory, object, pet, etc.)

Colored illustration + chart:

(At least one of your full-body drawings in color + Color Palette)

Alright–phew! Don't panic–

We will walk through this project together in class over the next 1-2 weeks.

So–like our first challenge...

Let's start with coming up with a character!

(Lists are good to start with!)

Due by Next Tuesday:

  • Choose your character

  • Complete initial sketches for face and body designs

    • Think about the shape of your character,

    • what do you want to emphasize in your design,

    • how many colors you need,

    • and how your design can reinforce their personality, motivations, and story arc.

(We're going to share them in groups on Tuesday)
