Dye Journal

As soon as I added the sagebrush into the water, color began to seep out of it. Within 15 minutes of simmering, the water turned a deep yellow. The smell of sagebrush is divine–minty sweet and herbal and is aptly nick-named: cowboy cologne.

The deerweed didn't yield much color over the course of an hour-long simmer and remained a cloudy yellow-brown even after straining. The branches I collected were mostly wilted and long-since bloomed. I might try again earlier in the season.
